All your desires to get a PSP Phone are in vain now as the Sony has refused to give Sony Ericsson license to make the product. PSP Phone was a concept that Ericsson put forward to Sony for both companies joint Sony-Ericsson venture. The company wanted to integrate the popular gaming handheld console, the PlayStation Portable with the mobile phone so that the mobile phone gamers too get the privilege of enjoying high definition 3D games at their fingertips without buying any separate device.
This move was speculated by lots of Sony fans and market researchers when Apple started putting emphasis on transforming its iPhone and iPod into potential handheld gaming device. However, Sony didn’t think that way and simply told Ericsson that pursuing the license of PSP brand may lead Sony to make the mobile phones independently. Actually Sony is known for collaborating with third party electronic devices manufacturers, such as with the Sony-Ericsson C902 Cyber-shot mobile phone, which takes the ‘Cyber-shot’ moniker from Sony’s digital camera line-up. However, Sony only gives licenses for its established brand only when it feels that the new product will meet the high tech specifications and quality benchmarks.
“In the past, we have been keen that our product proposition lives up to brand promise, and we feel at the moment the technical specs are not high enough to put such a prestigious brand on a phone,” said a Sony Ericsson’s spokesperson.
