Gone are those days when you have to put out and show your thumb to catch a ride. In today’s era of mobile technology, all you need to catch a ride is an Apple iPhone. Unbelievable but true. Avego, an Ireland based company, has launched a new service which simplifies the task of identifying available rides on a particular route. The drivers can now identify potential customers seeking a cab and the customers can also be informed about the nearest available ride for the destination they want to reach.
To access this new unique and exciting service it’s mandatory that the drivers must have an Apple iPhone, as no other smartphone, like the HTC Touch HD, is compatible with the app. The cabbies have to download the software application to their iPhones and then record the preferred route by setting the device on the dashboard. When the entire trip is recorded it has to be sent to the Avego’s network so that the company can store the information and add appropriate paths and pickup points to the received route. The passengers or the interested riders, on the other hand need not carry an iPhone with them. They can check for the available ride from a particular destination via Avego’s website. If they too have an iPhone then they can get the information directly on their devices.
Both the parties, i.e. the driver and the passenger will identify each other on the basis of their photographs displayed on the iPhone and via a PIN number that will authenticate the whole transaction. The customers will be charged at a rate of 30 cents a mile out of which 85 percent will go to the driver and the rest will be taken by the company. All the transactions will be handled by an automated online accounting system.
